Since 2012, the optometrists at Brown Vision Care have provided excellent comprehensive eye examinations and medical diagnostic services for our patients. Unlike other offices where you may feel like "just another number," we are very interested in communicating with you, listening to you, and responding to your personal needs. You will be impressed with the courteous attention you receive and the amount of time you spend with the doctor.
Our doctors do not perform “refraction-only” exams or squeeze patients into the schedule for “quick exams”. We believe in providing the best and most thorough eye exam possible and follow the Florida Board of Optometry’s minimal standard of care exam requirements.
Brown Vision Care is high-tech! You get the complete digital eye exam experience at our office. We are also environmentally conscious and our office is mostly paperless as we utilize an electronic medical records software. New patients can complete their paperwork at home in advance of their appointment using our easy and secure online form.
At Brown Vision Care, each examination we perform is both comprehensive and unique... because each patient is unique.
Our patients are tested for: vision disorders, eyelid disorders, conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome and other corneal disorders, iritis and anterior chamber disorders, cataracts, uveitis and vitreous humor disorders like floaters, retinal disease and lesions, macular degeneration, optic nerve diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and many other eye disorders. If any treatment or surgery is necessary that cannot be provided at our office, will we gladly refer you to a trusted local specialist.
All of our optometrists are Florida board certified and regularly attend continuing education courses. Dr. Brown is a proud member of the American & Florida Optometric Association(s) and the Manatee Optometric Society as well as Women in Eyecare.
Our optometrists serve patients age 6 and older. Younger patients are referred to a specialist.
Our office works hard to be as accessible and comfortable as possible for everyone. We have a large entry door and moveable exam chairs for patients using a wheelchair or scooter. Unfortunately, no bathrooms are available inside the office, but Costco’s restroom facilities are located nearby. Service dogs and guide dogs in-training are welcome.
As our office is located inside Costco, please contact the store directly regarding any specific questions or needs you may have (941) 554-2800.

Includes pupil dilation for new patients.
Most patients will receive dilation of the pupils for examination of the retina. If you are a new patient to our office, please plan on having your eyes dilated. If you are concerned about driving afterwards, please be aware that most patients experience no problem with this, but if you are unsure, it is always best to have another driver accompany you.
Includes pupil dilation for new patients as well as a prescription for glasses.
Standard exams apply to patients who use contact lenses to correct their distance vision only and have no astigmatism correction in their contacts.
The contact lens exam process includes an evaluation with trial contact lenses to ensure the best vision, good comfort, and proper fit for the shape of your eyes.
This service applies to patients who wear monovision, multifocal/bifocal, or toric/astigmatism contact lenses. A contact lens follow-up is included if necessary as well as a prescription for glasses.
There is a lot of new technology available for patients who want to eliminate the need for glasses. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for specialty soft contact lenses!
This exam is for patients who have never worn contact lenses before, are switching from hard to soft contacts, or have not worn contacts in a long time. Our patients are educated on proper contact lens care & hygiene as well as trained on safe contact lens insertion & removal. We allow a longer appointment time for these exams. A follow-up visit is included as well as a prescription for glasses.
Have a minor eye injury or infection?
We can help!
There services are for existing patients and start at $69. We do not provide medical or emergency services for individuals who are not patients at our office. Medical visit charges vary depending on the complexity of the visit and typically do not exceed $99. We do not bill insurance for medical visits, but all patients are provided with an itemized invoice for submission to their medical insurance if applicable. Please see our Medicare opt-out policy.
Serious eye emergencies will be referred to an ophthalmologist.
Retinal Photography services are available at our office. This service is recommended for all new patients in order to digitally screen for eye disease and to establish a baseline of your eye health. Retinal photography is not considered to be a substitute for pupil dilation.
Visual Field testing services are available starting at $39 with an exam. This test is typically ordered by the doctor for patients at-risk for certain diseases/disorders. Inquire for more details.
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is a scan of the deeper layers of the retina. This test can help to diagnose many types of eye problems - in some cases years before signs would show during a standard eye exam. The test takes just a few moments and scans start at $39 with an exam. We recommend any patients who may be at risk for glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic eye disease add the Wellness OCT scan to their annual exam.
Have a high resolution photograph of your retinas taken to screen for eye disease and monitor eye health
We can digitally read the prescriptions off of your old glasses
Have your eye pressures accurately tested without the puff of air
Our VR headset visual field machine screens patients at risk for certain eye diseases
In seconds, we can scan the deeper layers of the retina not visible during a standard exam to diagnose & monitor eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy & macular disorders
You will get a fast & accurate prescription with our all-digital refraction system
